There has never been anything like this in Freising: the neighborhood project Seilerbrückl Auenweide & Auengarten is the first community project that is dedicated to biodiversity. And there is more to come.
Freising - In an area of around 4000 square meters between Auenstrasse and Seilerbrücklstrasse, residents and property owners have created this small natural paradise in cooperation with the landscape conservation association. The species protection project was officially started on Friday.
It was Christian Kramer who came up with the idea for this extraordinary project. “Aue pasture,” says Kramer, because the sown plants would make a real bee pasture when the flowers bloomed in full splendor from July. After the first sowing in spring, which the landscape care association had carried out together with a specialist company, sowing and future mowing are a collaborative work of the residents, who would also learn something about nature, as Matthias Maino, managing director of the landscape care association, on Friday noted. He is "proud and happy that the citizens do it themselves".
The area on the Seilerbrückl is to become an insect paradise
After the popular request "Save the bees!", The idea arose at the end of 2019 to create an insect and flowering paradise on this unused green space in the Seilerbrückl, Maino reported. In doing so, they benefited from funding from the Bavarian-wide initiative "Naturally Bavaria", the Heideflächenverein Münchner Norden eV had extended its area to the district of Freising. The Heilig-Geist-Spital-Stiftung and a private owner have made the space available for this temporary use.

But a meadow pasture for the insects is not enough for the citizens of the Seilerbrückl. A community garden is created on around a tenth of the area, in which fruit and vegetables are to grow - in interaction with the flower meadow. Resource-saving use of nature, the right combination of vegetables and fruits, regionality and seasonality - the outdoor garden also fulfills several purposes. A real community experience that the residents of Seilerbrückl have created.
Citizens already have other ideas
And citizens think even more: Bee pasture should be the basis for further campaigns and events in order to convey information and knowledge about nature conservation and ecology. Even a temporary pasture operation with sheep, donkeys or horses could be realized on this area. A real ecological gem with a role model function, which sprouts and grows in the southwest of the large district town.
