Garmisch-Partenkirchen - The way to Austria is free, the borders are open. Since Thursday (May 28th), the citizens of the district have been able to drive to the neighboring municipalities again without problems after around three months of corona restrictions - without control. Some Mittenwalders took the opportunity straight away : for a tank trip to the Tyroleans.

But how does it work with the drive home? "As a German, you always come back," says Yvonne Oppermann, spokeswoman for the federal police in Rosenheim. The borders have not been manned for 24 hours for a long time, checks are carried out on arrival at certain points.

You should always carry an ID with you. According to the Robert Koch Institute, a quarantine obligation also no longer applies. Only when the number of new corona infections in a country exceeds a certain limit should you stay at home for two weeks after returning home. In Europe, this is currently only critical for travelers from Sweden .

Until the border was opened, the trip to Tyrol was much more complicated. You could only enter Austria if you gave a valid reason, for example a visit from your parents. And that only for 48 hours, otherwise there would be a two-week quarantine at home in Germany.
