Gilching-based Evi Thoma gave up her profession for the business idea: Now she opens the first unpackaged shop in the Starnberg district.

Gilching - The first unwrapped shop in the district starts in mid-July in the municipality of Gilching. Evi Thoma is the name of the initiator, who previously worked as a medical assistant and now focuses entirely on packaging-free food and hygiene products. Her family and young farmers from the region are also on board.

It sounds like pure passion, one hears Evi Thoma from Gilching, when she raves about her idea "Unpackaged". Actually, none of this was planned, says the trained medical assistant. But the growing packaging craze made her and her family sit up and take notice. “We are a household with five people and every two weeks we had up to four yellow sacks that we put on the doorstep. That was clearly too much. That is why we first considered where we could start saving packaging. Our motto was not to start on a large scale, but on a small scale. ”

The family started by sorting out five different shampoos in plastic tubes and various toothpastes. "We only need one variety, and there is one in the glass," emphasizes the native Gilchinger proudly. But that's not all. In addition to Mama Evi (46), the family also includes Papa Alex (47), son Marco (17) and two girls, each aged 13 and nine. Together they obtained detailed information and dealt extensively with the topic. The only problem was that there were too few shops, Thoma regrets. “We found one unwrapped shop in Fürstenfeldbruck and a second one in Weilheim. The district of Starnberg, however, was a no man's land. ”There are only 300 stores in Germany anyway, which have now joined together to form a network and support each other. “After my family supported me in the idea of opening my own shop, I gave up my job, looked for a suitable shop and am now going to set it up together with my husband and son. Most of the work is done in-house, ”explains Evi Thoma.

From purely social to economic thinking

The 46-year-old admits that she is a little bit afraid: “The first thing I have to learn is to move away from purely social to economic thinking. But that's where my husband supports me, who has agreed to take over the bookkeeping, among other things. ”By design engineer, Alex Thoma is not afraid of any challenge. With son Marco, who is currently training as a carpenter in Hochstadt, he takes care of the installation of the furniture and shelves.

Evi Thoma expects the opening in mid-July. "It depends on how we finish and have the goods arranged." On offer: pasta, rice, flour, hygiene products, peas, herbs, gummy bears, vegetable milk, snacks, vegetables and much more. Everything unpacked and also available in small quantities, emphasizes Thoma. "I also work with regional young farmers who now want to break new ground in marketing their products." The exact opening times of "Evis Unverpackt" at Pollinger Straße 11, opposite Gilching Town Hall, will be announced. Thoma: "I am definitely there every day and only take a small lunch break so that I can eat together with my family."
