Some of the campsite operators received thousands of requests. Most of the approximately 60,000 locations in Schleswig-Holstein were fully booked.

Home leave will be very trendy in 2020. However, this also affects the capacities of the campsites in Germany . If you have not yet booked, you could actually go empty-handed during the summer holidays.

A spontaneous arrival is not recommended. Instead, you should reserve in advance, insofar as the capacity of the space allows.

You should also say goodbye to the wish to be able to go on holiday to your favorite campsite this year . It is not uncommon for particularly popular places to have several hundred inquiries.

For example, the Gohren campsite in Kressbronn, the largest on Lake Constance . As the SWR reports, it is normal for the place to be fully booked during the summer holidays, like every year, but there have never been as many requests as there are currently.

Camping holiday 2020: special hygiene regulations for caravans and campers

If you still want to go camping in the summer holidays this year , you should also take a look at more unknown places. Or those that are not in the tourist strongholds (sea or mountains) of the country.

There is an overview of many campsites in Germany at the ADAC. But be careful: the availabilities can only be viewed on the respective websites of the providers.

There is also further information on hygiene regulations and distance rules that currently have to be followed on all campsites due to the corona pandemic. For example, campsite operators in Bavaria may only accept caravans and campers with their own sanitary facilities.

In the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, the # Corona protective measures are apparently seen somewhat loosely in isolated cases. For this reason, # camping and motorhome parking spaces are to be checked increasingly in the coming days. https://t.co/5lG5W09Nhs pic.twitter.com/K4wvAVRhFM

Camping holiday 2020: Wild camping in Germany is strictly prohibited

If you should come up with the idea of camping with your caravan or motorhome in the great outdoors because of the limited capacity of the campsites , you should not do this. Spending the night in a mobile home or caravan is permitted, but only in parking lots and only for one night. Prolonged parking can be fined.

Those who want to switch to the tent instead are no less punishable. Wild camping - i.e. pitching a tent in the wild - is not permitted in Germany or in most European countries.

Exceptions include the Baltic States and Scandinavia. If you want to be on the safe side, you can read on this page where wild camping is allowed in Europe.
