Brazil recorded Monday 679 new deaths and 15,654 new cases of contamination caused by the coronavirus, according to the National Council of State Secretaries, which bring together public health officials in each of the constituent states of the Brazilian federation. The council, which is not part of the health ministry, has started publishing its own figures since this weekend, after the ministry removed several months of statistics from a public website and stopped publishing the overall assessment of the epidemic.

According to the Council, the total number of deaths caused by the coronavirus amounts to 37,134 and the total number of cases of contamination is 707,412 patients.
