Floyd was a "common brother" to Houston's housing projects that "nobody thought much about," making his central role in a generational movement much more powerful, the Rev. Al Sharpton said at his funeral.

"God took the rejected stone and made it the cornerstone of a movement that is going to change the whole world," said Sharpton.

Floyd's body was escorted by the Houston Police Department to the Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland, Texas. Floyd was transferred in a horse-drawn carriage.

Shouts of "George Floyd" were heard during the burial procession, as supporters gathered to bid farewell to Floyd.

"Say his name," one man yelled, and people replied, "... George Floyd." At one point people shouted "George" and another shouted "... Floyd."

"I can't" and others answered "... breathe", and finally some said "get off your knees" and the group shouted "... from my neck".

As the procession approached, cheers could be heard.
