Caritas Institute of Higher Education offers five new bachelor degree courses in the 2020/21 academic year, including a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (Honours). The four-year courses will focus on information technology, programming, AI machine learning, and deep learning, as well as interdisciplinary elective subjects such as finance and accounting. Chen Qinghong, dean of the School of Computing and Information Science at Mingzhuan College, said that AI is an emerging course, and it is conservatively estimated that there are only less than 20 related courses in the world. For Hong Kong, CUHK and HKU started courses two years ago.

There are fewer than 20 related courses worldwide

However, Chen Qinghong pointed out that the future of the world is moving towards the AI era, and all industries need AI technology to improve product and service efficiency. Talents such as software engineering, web development, and data analysts are also hungry for the market. He pointed out that in the current job market in Hong Kong, there are more than 500 vacancies related to artificial intelligence every month, reflecting the need for talent training. He pointed out that the mainland has been actively recruiting AI talents. Master students can earn up to 100,000 yuan per month. There is no dedicated AI position in the local area. It is difficult to infer the starting salary point. However, taking a programmer with AI knowledge as an example, the monthly salary is about 30,000 to 40,000 yuan.

78,000 tuition fees per year

There are 45 places in the first year of the course, and the original tuition fee is 78,140 yuan. After deducting income-testing assistance, admission scholarship and special course funding, the first year tuition fee is 5,340 yuan. He pointed out that because the course has just been approved by the authorities, he has not yet applied for the SSSDP, which is expected to apply for the new academic year.

The first year of tuition for translation technology courses is about 10,000

In addition, in the new school year of Mingzhuan College, a four-year Bachelor of Arts in Translation Technology (Honours) is also offered. The course mainly combines translation knowledge and computer-assisted technology applications. Chen Shanwei, Dean of the School of Humanities and Languages, believes that with the popularization of translation aids, translation efficiency and speed are faster than manual translation. It also generates the needs of post-translation editing, translation system development, web page and software local translators, and the new curriculum is more than traditional manual translation. Training is more in line with market needs. The number of courses is 45. The first year tuition is deducted from the income-testing assistance and admission scholarship. The first year tuition is 10,180 yuan.
