Towards a return to normal, or almost. The European Commission will publish its proposals for a "gradual and partial" lifting of travel restrictions at the EU's external borders from July 1 this week, Vice President Josep Borrell announced on Wednesday. Proof that the Old Continent thinks that the threat of the Covid-19 is fading.
It would be a question of lifting the restrictions with certain third countries by taking into account "a certain number of principles and criteria" and by basing itself on a "common approach" between member states, he explained.
With the pandemic linked to the new coronavirus, the EU had indeed decided to close its borders with third countries to avoid further spread of the virus. Since the beginning of May, and the deconfinement started in most of its member countries, the internal borders have started to reopen.
