The cases of coronavirus have tripled in recent days in Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle, but the health authorities are not alarmed and explain this sharp increase in particular by the large number of tests carried out in these two departments.

" Meurthe-et-Moselle and Meuse are departments that test a lot " their population, which mechanically generates a stronger detection of new cases in these territories, explained the Regional Health Agency (ARS), interviewed by the 'AFP. What explain in part the high " incidence rates" in these two departments, which more than tripled in a few days.

Figures between three and six times higher than the national average

In the Meuse, it jumped from 7.7 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants on June 2 to 27 on June 7. In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the rate dropped from 7 new cases on June 1 to 22.2 on June 7. Figures five to six times higher than the national average (4.3), and almost three times higher than the regional average (8.8).

" These figures must be analyzed with regard to other epidemiological surveillance indicators (...) which do not show signs of epidemic recovery ", further nuances the ARS. The " active circulation " of the virus is " controlled " and " at this stage, there is no impact on the hospital services of the departments concerned, " she says.

According to the latest figures provided by the agency, 98 people have died of Covid-19 in health facilities in Meuse since the beginning of March and 31 people were still hospitalized on Tuesday, including three in intensive care or intensive care.

In Meurthe-et-Moselle, more affected, 356 people died of the virus and 119 patients were still hospitalized Tuesday, including nine in intensive care. In Grand Est, one of the French regions most affected by the epidemic, 1,646 Covid-19 patients were still hospitalized on Tuesday.
