Galicia will be the first of the Spanish regions to complete its deconfinement on Monday, a week before the rest of the country, the government announced on Friday. Spain, one of the most bereaved countries in the world by the pandemic with more than 27,000 deaths, started a cautious deconfinement in three phases in May after having imposed one of the strictest confinements in the world.

Monday, more than 70% of the population will be at the last stage of this progressive deconfinement which must end on June 21. " Three out of four citizens will be able to resume the activities permitted in phase 3 on Monday ", like going to a disco for example, announced the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa.

The Madrid region or the city of Barcelona, ​​the most affected by the pandemic and the last to have started their deconfinement, will they be part of the zones still in the second phase which allows the opening of dining rooms, swimming pools or beaches for non-sporty swimming. Once the state of alert is lifted on June 21, the movement of people will be " free " in the country, without any restriction, said the Minister of Health.

The deconfinement will therefore be finished in Madrid or Barcelona even if the two largest cities in the country have not gone through phase 3. The second tourist destination in the world behind France, Spain has on the other hand planned to reopen its borders only on July 1 even if Brussels called on European states to lift from Monday " all internal border restrictions " of the EU before gradually authorizing travelers from third countries from July 1.
