Marie-France Garaud, former adviser to Jacques Chirac, missing in Deux-Sèvres

The gendarmerie launched a wanted notice following the disappearance of this French political figure of the 1970s, now 86 years old.


According to information from AFP confirmed by Le Figaro , the former adviser to Jacques Chirac Marie-France Garaud, 86, has disappeared since Friday evening June 12. “This person, suffering from an Alzheimer's type disease, left his home near Saint-Pompain by car around 11pm. The guardian of the domain notified the gendarmerie of Niort at 2 am ” , explains to Le Figaro the duty officer of the gendarmerie group of Niort (Deux-Sèvres).

Gendarmes were dispatched to the scene and warned their colleagues in the neighboring department of Vendée, who then warned them that a vehicle similar to his had been spotted in the forest of Mervent overnight.

An investigation was opened for worrying disappearance. About twenty gendarmes crisscrossed the sector on Saturday morning, on the Vendée side as well as the Deux-Sèvres side. “All of our resources are mobilized. But this person did not take any phone or payment with him; there is nothing technically that allows us to speed up the searches, ” says the gendarmerie officer, who specifies that Marie-France Garaud's vehicle is a Toyota in light gray color.

86-year-old Marie-France Garaud is known for her role as advisor to Georges Pompidou and Jacques Chirac. She was a candidate in the 1981 presidential election (1.3%) and a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004.
