The Planegger branch of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen spoke up in good time before the municipal councils in Planegg and Graefelfing deal with the geothermal heat storage project in the gravel pit in Martinsried field.

Planegg / Graefelfing - In a statement, the Planegger local association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen welcomes storage technology as an "important step towards expanding renewable energies, especially solar energy". However, he is skeptical about the idea of expanding the pit, the gravel of which is to be finished in autumn, to become the world's largest basin store for solar heat with a capacity of around 300,000 cubic meters.

The Gräfelfingen local association of the Greens and the green group 21 (gG21) in Planegg have submitted a joint application in their respective communities. In coordination, a planning office should be commissioned with a feasibility study. In addition to the underground storage tank in the pit, which is largely located in the Gräfelfingen corridor, the aim is to investigate whether an area one and a half kilometers away designated as a photovoltaic field in the Planegger land use plan can be partially equipped with thermal solar collectors in order to feed into the heat storage unit.

The Planegger Greens see a need for discussion on various points, such as the legal construction of an inter-communal facility, the proportion of solar energy or the size of the storage facility. You are now proposing to commission separate feasibility studies for separate projects. Their idea is to turn the designated Planegger solar energy field into an underground tank with a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters plus a solar field. On the one hand, the immediate proximity of the storage facility and the associated solar thermal system ensures maximum energy efficiency, on the other hand, the Greens write: "Due to the decoupling, there are no logistical uncertainties for our community and possible delays due to the slow filling of the gravel pit."

Martin Feldner, Gräfelfings green 3rd mayor, sees in the proposal of the Planegger party colleagues no rejection of the project on the Martinsried field. "I am glad and grateful that the Planegger Greens are also working on the idea. That should be checked. Maybe the smaller project is actually the better one. ”
