Update of June 15, 8.30 p.m .:  There is sad certainty: The pilot of the US fighter jet that crashed over the North Sea did not survive the accident on Monday. As the US Army announced on Facebook in the evening, only the man's body could be recovered. Nothing was initially known about the possible cause of the accident, and the name of the deceased is also not being published for the time being.

The pilot of the downed F-15C Eagle from the 48th Fighter Wing has been located, and confirmed deceased.

Update of June 15, 5 p.m .:  The plane wreck of  the US fighter jet, which crashed into the North Sea on Monday morning, was found . The BBC reports  . The search for the pilot is still ongoing. When a pilot of a jet actuates the ejection seat, a personalized direction finder is normally activated automatically. Whether the pilot was able to leave the plane with the ejection seat is still unclear , the British broadcaster said.

First report from June 15, 12.40 p.m .:  Middlesborough - A US fighter jet crashed during a training flight to the North Sea off the English coast. According to the BBC , it is an F-15C Eagle aircraft at Royal Air Force Station Lakenheath, Suffolk. The reason for the accident is unknown .

North Sea: US fighter jet crashes into the sea - pilot and plane missing

The U.S. Air Force confirmed on its information platform that the plane had crashed and announced that a pilot was on board . Both the pilot and the plane are missing. The accident occurred at 9.40am local time. A spokeswoman for the Royal Coast Guard (Her Majesty's Coastguard) told the BBC that a helicopter and several lifeboats headed for the crash site.

We are coordinating a response today after reports were received of an airplane going down into the sea 74NM off Flamborough Head, Yorks.

The plane was flying in formation with three other jets when it plunged into the sea 137 kilometers from the coast.

North Sea: US fighter jet crashes into the sea - Air Force speaks out

In an official video statement posted on Twitter around 2:00 p.m., Air Force Station commander Colonel Will Marshall confirmed the plane's crash again. The reason for the crash is unknown. Rescue workers are on the way, the pilot is still missing.

He thanked the efforts of the British forces and was hopeful to find the pilot's location and to be able to recover him.
