Minister of Economy and Industry, Amir Peretz announced on Friday that he wanted to impose tariffs on importing cement into Israel from Greece and Turkey, thereby accepting the position of the Advisory Committee, which determined that imports would be inundated and that the damage to the domestic manufacturing industry would worsen.

"I see the need to protect the livelihoods of Israelis as an important challenge, especially during the days of Corona. Therefore, we will protect the Israeli industry from the flooding that can bring about the closure of entire industries. Burst message. "We are bringing a balanced decision today that is shifting the local industry on the one hand, keeping cement prices as they are today and until the end of the levy."

The Minister noted that strategic importance is needed to ensure the existence of the local, competitive and sustainable cement industry, along with the lowering of welcome prices and promoting fair competition in the cement industry which brings with it imports. The Minister sees the importance of ensuring a strong and independent industrial base in the long term and every intelligence today brings a balanced decision that ensures the existence of a local strategic industry on the one hand, and on the other hand, maintains cement prices as they are today, and until the end of the levy.

Finance Minister Israel Katz is not obliged to comment and commented in his Twitter account: "This is completely contrary to my worldview, which advocates against monopolies and lowers the cost of living. Therefore, by an authoritative I intend to reject this recommendation outright."

I congratulate Finance Minister Israel Katz on his correct decision. The Likud will act as one man in maintaining a free and liberal economy for the citizens of Israel. https://t.co/TCWJRDscxp

Peretz's decision drew reactions in the political system. MK Nir Barkat of the Likud also responded to the issue, tweeting that he "congratulates the Minister of Finance on his right decision".

To say that imposing the foam does not affect housing prices is like saying that milk prices will not affect cheese prices.

Former Economy Minister Eli Cohen wrote: "Waving an empty slogan of human economics content, but giving in to monopolies and pressure groups, hurts home buyers and especially the young couples." And MK Sharan Hashel tweeted that "together we will continue to work against proposals that harm Israeli citizens."

A rolling event. Minister Amir Peretz was pressed and deleted a tweet announcing support for the cement monopoly after which Minister @Israel_katz tweeted in response a welcome message for rejecting Peretz's recommendation.
