An event in Jableh on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga ... Ambassador of India: Our stances are firm with Syrian support

The Embassy of India in Damascus today, in cooperation with the Higher Committee for Yoga and Energy in Syria, held an event on the grounds of Al-Baath Stadium in Jableh in Lattakia, titled “Yoga for Harmony and Peace” on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, which falls on the 21st of June.

The celebration included sports exercises for yoga players coming from different governorates who embodied the unified global movements of yoga in addition to spiritual yoga dances that express peace for Syria and the cohesion of the children of Syrian society.

The Indian ambassador in Damascus, Dr. Hafizur Rahman, said in a speech before the start of the celebration: “Yoga has become a life for millions of people in the world, exercise is a guarantee of health, as it is a bridge between the Indian and Syrian cultures, and a way to spread the messages of love and peace and is the best tool to overcome depression.”

Ambassador Hafizur Rahman pointed out that the Indo-Syrian relations are strong, historical and rooted at all levels once again, stressing the stability of his country's positions in support of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and its fight against terrorism in Arab and international forums, as is the case with Syria, which in turn supports India's positions in international and regional forums.

Mazen Issa, head of the Higher Committee for Yoga and Energy in Syria, said: Yoga represents the philosophy of love, peace and nonviolence and touches higher human values, adding that the celebration of this day “aims to perpetuate the cosmic peace that is within us because external peace is achieved only with the inner peace of individuals” indicating that yoga helps to Intellectual, physical and social health leading to spiritual health.

Attended the event in which about 250 male and female trainees attended the Governor of Latakia Ibrahim Khader Al-Salem, Dr. Haitham Ismail, Secretary of the Baath Arab Socialist Party branch in Lattakia, Firas Mualla, President of the General Sports Federation, members of the Indian Embassy in Damascus and interested.

It is noteworthy that the celebration of the International Day of Yoga started in 2014 according to the agreement and consensus of 177 countries to set the 21 of June of each year as the International Day of Yoga.
