For the past eight days, two elderly people affected by the coronavirus have died at the Kourou hospital center, which does not have an intensive care unit. An 81-year-old woman on Saturday June 13 and an 85-year-old man on Sunday June 21, the latter death being the seventh in Guyana. In this territory of 300,000 inhabitants, 2,441 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed on Saturday evening, including 1,511 active cases (not cured). The number of cases has quadrupled in two weeks and doubled in the last 7 days.

On Saturday, 278 tests were positive in Guyana out of 869 carried out, or 32%. Nearly one in three people tested. 111 infected people were hospitalized on Saturday evening, including 14 in intensive care in Cayenne. Two Covid patients in intensive care in Cayenne were evacuated to Martinique on Thursday.
