Beijing-Sana

China confirmed today that the unjustified statements in which US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo attacked Beijing constituted a clear violation of the basic rules of international relations.

Pompeo had been inciting the European Union countries against China, claiming that reliance on them constituted a "threat to Western democracies."

"China firmly opposes these statements, which violate the basic facts and fundamental norms of international relations and only reveal permanent American thinking in the Cold War and ideological bias," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Legian at a press conference today posted on the ministry's website.

Zhao added that the Chinese people have witnessed such statements for a long time now, and we believe that such statements have no effect in the international community. We advise this American politician to correct mistakes, stop spreading political viruses, and do more beneficial things for China-US cooperation instead of undermining cooperation.

Meanwhile, in his comment on the National People's Congress vote on the decision to join the "Arms Trade Treaty", Zhao stressed that Beijing will complete domestic legal procedures for joining the treaty and the letter of accession will be deposited with the United Nations Secretary-General as soon as possible through diplomatic channels.

He stressed that China attaches great importance to stopping the illicit transfer and misuse of conventional weapons and supports the purposes and objectives of the "Arms Trade Treaty" and taking the necessary measures to regulate international arms trade and combating illicit transfers of them. It also calls on all parties to impose strict control on arms exports and refrain from exporting them To non-state actors and stop interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states through arms exports and seriously preserving the principles of the United Nations Charter.

On the recent decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran, the Chinese spokesman stressed that Beijing has always supported the agency in performing its preventive duties in an objective, professional and impartial manner and opposes the politicization of the agency's work, explaining that “the issue of guarantees against Iran is not urgent and does not constitute a risk of proliferation, as the Iranian side has expressed its readiness To solve the issue through dialogue with the agency. ”

The spokesman stressed that under these circumstances, China does not agree to any measure that artificially exacerbates the conflict and escalates the situation. We hope the relevant parties maintain calm and restraint, and support Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency in resolving differences through dialogue and cooperation.

The spokesman reiterated China's position on adhering to the nuclear agreement with Iran, pluralism, peace and stability in the Middle East and the international system based on international law.
