The Syrian General Organization for Insurance announced the amendment of the ceiling of medical coverage for faithful workers in the public and private sectors within hospitals to become 650 thousand Syrian pounds annually instead of 500 thousand pounds, including 150 thousand for industrial alternatives instead of 100 thousand pounds previously, starting from the first of next July based on the approval of the Presidency Council of Ministers.

The Director General of the Syrian Insurance Institute, Eng. Iyad Zahraa, stated in a statement to SANA today that the ceiling of the movements of using insurance cards to cover outside the hospital has also been opened without restrictions to secure access to the services of the laboratory, pharmacy and doctor after it was limited to 12 movements with the same medical coverage of the insured previously estimated at 50 thousand Lira annually and 25 thousand pounds annually for chronic medicines.

And Zahraa stated that based on the current changes that occurred in the insurance companies from opening the movements and raising the ceiling of coverage at the hospital, the annual insurance premium has become 28 thousand Syrian pounds, whereby the public treasury with the General Insurance Corporation contributes with support estimated at 22 thousand pounds and the worker bears six thousand pounds annually instead of From three thousand previously.

Zahra also indicated that the insurance premium was raised due to the reluctance of a number of medical service providers “hospitals, doctors, laboratories, and pharmacists” to provide services and refused to receive the believers, whose number in the administrative sector is estimated at 600 thousand insured as a result of the inconsistency of the medical services tariff for the insurance premium and the high prices of materials and supplies. Medical and increased sterilization processes under precautionary measures to address the Corona virus.

According to Zahraa, the Foundation prepared a study during the recent period during which the prices of medical services were estimated in agreement with the medical unions such as the Medical Syndicate and links in hospitals, laboratories, radiologists and surgeons, and the tariff was adjusted to suit the large audience of believers, which led to an additional burden being placed on the insurance policy.

Zahraa pointed out that the mentioned study targeted the most needy segment of workers to meet the needs of 90 percent of hospital admissions from 18 years to 60 years, indicating that insurance compensation will later be observed for some exceptional cases related to heart conditions, which represent about 10 percent of admission cases For hospitals.

Zahra stressed that the coverage of services within the hospitals specified by 650 thousand pounds is linked to the degree of classification of the hospital and there are four categories of hospitals that were identified in agreement with the unions and hospital links, as the classification improved, the amount of compensation for the same medical procedure increased by 12 percent, explaining that the categories of hospitals are linked to their modernity and development and the number of intensive care rooms she has.

He stated that the highest classification of hospitals is distributed in Damascus, and most of them are still outside the medical network services due to the high costs of operations there, expressing his hope to reach an agreement with medical associations and unions to enter these hospitals to the network of medical services for insured workers in the state and the private sector.

Zahra pointed out that the Foundation will study the results of medical coverage at hospitals and outside hospitals at the end of the year, and explain the adequacy of the premium in light of the current situation and the extent of commitment of medical service providers to the agreements concluded with them.

The Ministry of Finance issued a circular yesterday to all departmental accountants at the public authorities by deducting the amount of 500 Syrian pounds per month from the wages of workers in the state instead of 250 pounds starting from the beginning of next July, after the approval of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to amend the insurance policy.
