Bringing together 22 deputies from different political groups, this mission on " the emergence and development of different forms of racism and the responses to be provided " was decided in late 2019 in connection with the adoption of a motion for a resolution LREM , without binding value, aimed at combating the " new forms " of anti-Semitism. In view of the criticisms of this text, in particular on the idea of a possible “ hierarchy of hatreds ”, including in the ranks of “ walkers ”, their leader Gilles Le Gendre had accepted the request for a mission of information.

The latter, which is therefore " not in reaction to the news ", has lagged a little behind in its implementation, particularly following the coronavirus crisis, Caroline Abadie (LREM) told AFP who should be appointed Wednesday as rapporteur, while MEP LR Robin Reda is slated to take the chair.

But " the news really demonstrates the importance of the subject, " added the elected representative of Isère, while the issue of racism and police violence came back to the fore in the wake of a global movement sparked by the murder in the United States of George Floyd, a black forties asphyxiated by a white police officer. The member hopes that the mission, which she wishes to be " very pragmatic ", will bring " serenity " to this " complex " debate .

Elected officials will proceed before the summer break to hearings and round tables from academics (political scientists, demographers, philosophers ...) to better delimit the scope of their work. They should hear institutional players such as the Interministerial Delegation to Combat Racism, Anti-Semitism and Anti-LGBT Hate (Dilcrah) or the National Consultative Commission for Human Rights (CNCDH) at the start of the school year. Abadie, who expects work to close in the first half of 2021.
