A man was indicted and imprisoned this Monday, June 30, for the murder of his wife, killed with several stabs at their home in Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine), as stated by the Nanterre prosecution.

The facts took place in the night from Friday to Saturday in this city in the nearby Parisian suburbs. It was the couple's 18-year-old daughter who alerted the emergency services after receiving a message Saturday morning from her father telling her that she had killed her mother, the prosecution said.
Once there, the police found themselves facing a man entrenched in his home. He was finally arrested after several hours of negotiations and placed in police custody where he immediately recognized the facts.
The lifeless body of his 51-year-old wife was discovered by emergency services inside the apartment. Initial reports indicate that she was stabbed several times. The family, originally from Romania, has been in France since 2015.

The case brings to at least 34 the number of alleged femicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP recorded at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, i.e. a woman every three days on average.
