Better not to look down. During a municipal convention, organized in Paris on January 11, Marine Le Pen presented the succession of local elections which began as so many "carabiners to hang on the wall that leads to the summit: the Élysée." Barely past the first steep municipal pass, the National Gathering sees concealing, beneath its feet, significant support for the next elections: its elected members sitting on the councils of metropolises and big cities of the country.
In nine municipalities with more than 200,000 inhabitants out of eleven, the party failed to qualify in the second round with scores often divided by two compared to the municipal elections in 2014. It was thus rid of its elected representatives in Lille , Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Montpellier or Lyon. In Marseille, despite an intense campaign waged without false note, it will have escaped, last Sunday, its sector town hall and 11 of its 20 seats on the municipal council.
