Arriving at the scene a few minutes after the accident, she assured Blu Radio that Quintana was "out of danger", despite "knee pain" and "elbow scratches". Quintana has returned to his home, where he needs medical treatment, she added.

"She crossed the white line and hit me"

The interested party gave his fans news on social media a little later: “Thank you very much for your messages of support. You know I had a problem. A car hit me this morning. She crossed the white line and hit me. I have some scratches and I took a blow on the right knee and the left thigh which touched the rear view mirror of the vehicle. We are awaiting the results of the exams I have just taken to rule out any presence of lesions which could disturb our preparation. I will keep you posted".

The 30-year-old Colombian, who has climbed the Tour de France podium three times, had a promising start to the season with the French team Arkea-Samsic. He notably won the last stage of Paris-Nice last March, one of the last races before the end of the season due to the pandemic of new coronavirus.

Reassuring message from Nairo Quintana after the accident he suffered this morning in training in Colombia: grated left elbow, blows to the right knee and left thigh after a car overturned him. A priori more fear than harm for the Colombian champion. @ NairoQuinCopic.twitter.com / WNvrq7mjXa
