NRL calendar rejected, elections maintained: the FFR marks its territory

2020-07-03T19:01:54.040Z

During the steering committee, the Federation announced that it would wait for World Rugby's decisions before deciding on the dates for the November tour. In addition, the date of October 3 is maintained for the elections at the head of the authority.

There are many burning files for the Federation for the French Rugby Federation. The first of them concerns the next tour in November. At the end of its steering committee which was held this Friday morning, the FFR rejected the Top 14 calendar proposed Tuesday by the National Rugby League. The Federation would like to have the internationals available to play six matches in the fall, in order to make up for the shortfall due to the cancellation of competitions due to the health crisis. The League, for its part, only offers international players for five dates. A new illustration of the lingering tensions between the two bodies that direct professional rugby in France. The body headed by Bernard Laporte insists that on July 7, World Rugby, the international federation, will determine which dates are chosen for the test matches in October and November.

“The FFR has proposed to the NRL to postpone the validation of the Top 14 calendar in order to await the order of international competitions for the next fall window at the next EXCO of World Rugby scheduled for July 7. It has been agreed with the LNR to call a meeting of a Strategic Orientation Committee on the morning of July 8 and to convene a new Steering Committee the same day, in order to validate a calendar taking into account the international calendar ”, indicates the Federation French in a press release.

"There can be no agreement or disagreement since we do not know the international calendar of the window for good. It can still move until the last moment "

Serge Simon

Questioned by our colleagues from  RMC Sport , Serge Simon, the vice-president of the FFR, explains that "there is no disagreement" with the League: "We cannot discuss today, or so on hypotheses, as long as we do not have the number of dates to mobilize for the XV of France which will be decided on Tuesday. That is why we asked to stay. There can be no agreement or disagreement insofar as one does not know definitively the international calendar of the window. It can still move until the last moment. ”

No postponement of elections

In addition, the French French Federation has confirmed that the next elections for the presidency of the body are maintained until October 3. Florian Grill, who leads the opposition list to outgoing president Bernard Laporte, wanted the elections to be postponed to the beginning of 2021 due to the health crisis.

“The FFR Management Committee confirmed the date of October 3, 2020 for the holding of the Elective General Assembly. This date has never been legally challenged. As such and in accordance with the reform of the Statutes and Internal Regulations of the FFR voted during the Extraordinary General Meeting in September 2017, the vote will be in electronic and dematerialized form and the proxies will be deleted. The clubs will have the opportunity to vote from Friday October 2 and until Saturday October 3 at 12 noon, ”said the FFR in a press release.
