Amnesty International announced that a court of the Turkish regime today imprisoned two former officials of the organization on the pretext of committing "terrorist" activities.

The French press agency quoted the organization as saying that Taner Kılıç, the former head of the organization in Turkey, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison for "belonging to a terrorist group", while the former director of the organization, Idel Essar, received a two-year prison sentence and one month for "assisting a terrorist organization".

The organization pointed out that other activists obtained the same ruling as Essar, while seven accused, including a German and a Swedish, were acquitted.

"It is outrageous ... accusations that have no meaning and no evidence," she added, adding that "we will not give up as long as not all of them are acquitted."

Cilic, who is currently the honorary president of the organization in Turkey, is accused by the authorities of the Turkish regime of his links to the preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom Ankara accuses of being behind the attempted coup in 2016.

Erdogan's regime pursued repressive policies against its opponents and opponents, citing an attempted coup and, under the pretext, it carried out a massive campaign of arrests and dismissals that affected tens of thousands in all civil and military institutions of the state, in addition to suppressing the freedom of the press and closing many newspapers, media and websites to reach the imposition of a state of emergency in the country.
