In Lyon, the installation session of the new mayor and his municipal council scheduled for Saturday afternoon, was almost canceled… because of Covid-19. A young candidate from the ecological list of the ninth arrondissement, Gauthier Chapuis, has indeed tested positive at Covid-19 this week. Since then, the ARS services have been working to draw the contours of the people who have been in contact with him and this particularly during the electoral evening of Sunday June 28, which took place at Ninkasi, a beer brewery reserved for the occasion by ecological teams.
The photos taken in the evening are combed through to identify people who have been in prolonged contact with the patient. A good twenty in total, new elected officials, activists, collaborators and journalists gathered during the evening around Grégory Doucet, the new mayor of Lyon, who analyzed the results on Sunday as the votes were counted.
Reinforced sanitary conditions
"Can the installation municipal council be held on Saturday? Asked the environmentalists. "It appears on the images of the electoral evening that Grégory Doucet was not directly in contact with this candidate" reports his cabinet after investigation. The rest of the team should be tested soon. The ecologist, who enjoys a large majority in the municipal council of Lyon will therefore be well inducted on Saturday afternoon. But it will miss in its ranks nine new elected officials, nine ecological municipal councilors, placed in the fortnight and who have therefore entrusted their proxy to vote to their colleagues.
This installation municipal council will also be held under reinforced sanitary conditions. Masks strictly compulsory for everyone at the town hall this Saturday, including in the street for the arrival of the new elected officials planned by bicycle. Ditto for the distancing which will have to be respected with even more rigor. This case of Covid-19 to the municipal council of Lyon will also be the subject of a declaration at the opening of the session by Grégory Doucet. And finally, the outgoing mayor, Gérard Collomb who was to pass, as the oldest member of the assembly, the tricolor scarf to his successor, will be dispensed from the symbolic gesture, however much awaited by photographers and cameras.
