Michèle Rubirola takes the keys to the City Hall of Marseille. The leader of the union of the left and environmentalists of the Printemps Marseillais was elected this Saturday morning during a city council under tension.

She was appointed in the second round with 51 votes for her against 41 for her opponent LR Guy Teissier, after the withdrawal of Samia Ghali.

"I made the decision not to divide the Marseillais, not to sadden the Marseillais and to allow them to have Michèle Rubirola as mayor, that is why I will withdraw my candidacy," announced the former senator. -PS of the northern districts, just before the second round in a declaration in front of the Town Hall.

"I am relieved "

Very moved, Michèle Rubirola received her mayor's scarf from the hands of Jean-Claude Gaudin, who leaves his chair after 25 years in office.

"The first feeling that drives me," she said in tears, "is relief. I am relieved to know that the will of the majority has been respected. ”

"It blew a great deal of freedom, fraternity and solidarity in Marseille during this Marseille Spring campaign," added Michèle Rubirola. "I measure the hope that our movement has aroused," she added.

"I thank Samia Ghali and her running mates for joining me," she insisted.

In the first round, Michèle Rubirola had been opposed to Guy Tessier, LR candidate after the withdrawal of Martine Vassal, and to the ex-PS senator from the northern districts Samia Ghali. The latter had first asked the Printemps Marseillais for the post of first deputy then announced during the night her desire to regain complete freedom of vote, in order to "make the best choice for working-class neighborhoods".

The municipal council was marked by the theatrical departure of the elected RNs from the first minutes of the session. Led by Stéphane Ravier, the latter did not take part in the vote.

Marseillaise pure juice, Michèle Rubirola, 63-year-old doctor, specialist in preventive health, worked in the northern districts of the city. It tipped the city to the left after 25 years of Gaudin (LR) mandate.
