The violent fire that broke out in the night from Friday to Saturday, shortly after midnight, in an apartment building on rue des Ternes (17th century), claimed one victim. The apartment on the 3rd floor from where the flames started was empty at the time of the events. But the thick smoke that invaded the upper floors and the stairwell, quickly made impassable, was fatal for the occupant of the accommodation located just above.
This 91-year-old lady trapped at home was suffocated. “Normally, she shouldn't have been in her Parisian apartment. She had only returned temporarily ... to attend a funeral, "we bitterly recalled the day after the tragedy in the entourage of the residence in shock.
Miss France evacuated
No less than 130 firefighters were mobilized to fight against the flames and to evacuate the residents located above the burning apartment. "Eighteen people had to be evacuated by the exterior ladders," says Captain Florian Lointier, spokesman for the Paris fire brigade. Among them was Clémence Bobino, miss France 2020, housed in the condominium on rue des Ternes during the year of her "reign".
She was not injured. But twelve of his neighbors, more or less seriously intoxicated, had to be taken care of by the emergency services. By mid-day Saturday, three of them were still in hospital, but their condition was no longer cause for concern. The residents of the other stairwell of the residence spared from the flames left them on their own, before being allowed to return to their homes, at 4 am.
Occupant's dog did not survive
The occupant of the apartment where the incident occurred had left at the time of the fire. This DJ only discovered the extent of the drama when he returned home early in the morning. According to some sources, the "very alcoholic" man was taken over by the police for questioning. "Her little dog did not survive the fire," said one of her neighbors. “Around midnight, I saw him on the balcony of the apartment in flames. He was barking, barking ... And then he went back inside! "
The origin of the fire has not yet been determined. An investigation was opened and the laboratory of the Paris prefecture of police went to the site to determine the causes of this incident. The flames ravaged only one apartment on the 3rd floor of the building which has 7. But several dwellings located above, where the occupants came to collect some belongings on Saturday, are uninhabitable.
"We carried out six temporary relocations during the disaster," said Geoffroy Boulard, mayor (LR) of the borough, who spent part of the night on site. “There was a lot of solidarity in the residence. Some residents of the undamaged part welcomed their neighbors across the way, ”said the elected official. "There will probably be one or two more sustainable relocations to consider," he concludes.
