Asked this Sunday July 5 in the JDD , Yannick Jadot does not hide his ambitions. MEP EELV, who led his party's list during the 2019 European elections (13.5%; 3rd position), wants to work on taking power from ecology in France. When asked about his possible candidacy for the next presidential election, the elected official made no secret: "I am preparing for it. Ecology has an immense responsibility: that of gaining power to transform the lives of citizens ” . To do this, the ecologist does not plan to go through a primary, "machine to divide and lose" , according to him.

But before the supreme election, you have to build a project. "From the start of the school year," he explains, " we must launch a vast rally around ecology, leftist forces who want it and, beyond, citizens who find themselves in this new political matrix " .

Yannick Jadot wishes to “ demonstrate that ecology in power is effective for the concrete life of the French. And we plan for the upcoming deadlines (....) But we still have to convince a lot of French people. Emmanuel Macron divides them, while Marine Le Pen fuels hatred. We still need to widen the gathering, from the climate generation to entrepreneurs who invest massively in ecology ”.

Castex-Philippe: continuity

One of EELV's strongmen believes, moreover, that the new Prime Minister will bring nothing more than his predecessor in terms of ecology. According to him, Jean Castex “ is in perfect political continuity with Édouard Philippe. Neither of them has ever shown any interest in climate or biodiversity ”. If Jean Castex assured that ecology was "no longer an option " but " an obligation ", MEP EELV, whose party recorded a strong breakthrough in municipal elections, considers that the " new path " of Emmanuel Macron and its new head of government " looks like an old dead end ".

" While the economic recession could lead to a million additional unemployed and a great precariousness, the president begins again to point the finger at the French with the same catchphrase of working more and the preference for unemployment , criticizes Yannick Jadot. Rather than making us feel guilty and taking responsibility, we expect the president to accelerate the implementation of an ecological and social recovery plan that invests heavily in professional transitions. And stop its unemployment insurance and pension reforms ”.

" As for his democratic reinvention, the world is getting worse and worse, " he continues, denouncing a head of state who " no longer hides his desire to concentrate all the powers, those of the government as well as of Parliament " . Asked about the citizens' convention, the MEP said that it " should have been the start of the ecological action that we have been waiting for three years. Alas, Emmanuel Macron concluded it with an electoral maneuver. The temperature is rising, the sea level too, and during this time, the president's only concern is to stop the rise of the environmentalists . ”
