Some of these eight new ministers are completely new to government, others are more confirmed in politics. Presen

They are eight, six women and two men, and will now take their places around the table of the Council of Ministers. These new members of the government were appointed on Monday by Emmanuel Macron to be part of the "Castex 1" government, three days after the appointment of Jean Castex as Prime Minister.

Three of them have ministerial status. Five others are "simple" deputy ministers. We make you the presentations.

Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Culture

She has already spent seven years in the hands of a ministry. Roselyne Bachelot, formerly in charge of Ecology and then of Health, enters as Minister of Culture. Since 2012, she had converted into a journalist, columnist and host on various television shows, notably on C8 and then on LCI.

This great opera lover had returned to the news in recent weeks because of the controversy over the mask stocks. Roselyne Bachelot, whose massive orders for vaccines during the influenza A crisis in 2009 had been controversial, detailed the orders for protective equipment placed when she was Minister of Health, between 2007 and 2012. She was even interviewed by the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the management of the coronavirus crisis.

With each reshuffle since the election of Emmanuel Macron in 2017, his name was among those put forward as being able to appear on the final list. This is the case for the first time, Barbara Pompili having been appointed Minister in charge of Ecology.

This MP has long been a member of Europe Ecologie les Verts (EELV), which she left in September 2015, as did François de Rugy and Jean-Vincent Placé. All three favored the entry of environmentalists into government and opposed alliances with more radical left forces.

Barbara Pompili had had only one government experience until then, before 2017, as Secretary of State for Biodiversity during the last year of the Holland five-year term.

Re-elected as a Member of Parliament in June 2017, she has chaired since that time the National Assembly's Committee on Sustainable Development and Regional Planning.

Eric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justice

The famous and media lawyer joined the government as Minister of Justice. Logically, the one who is often nicknamed "Acquittator" for his ability to have many of his clients acquitted, should therefore cancel the daily column he had to keep on Europe 1 at the start of the school year.

His entry into the government caused a lot of reaction and was already criticized in particular by Marine Le Pen, who likened him to "an activist from the far left who wants to ban the RN, the first opposition party". A benchmark that dates back five years. "The FN is not a republican party, it must be banned," said the criminalist on France Inter in May 2015.

Five deputy ministers

In addition, two LREM parliamentarians, a department president and two people from civil society are entering as deputy ministers.

Nadia Hai will be in charge of the City. MP for Yvelines, she won with 53.1% of the vote against her opponent in June 2017. "My life as a parliamentarian continues at home," she told the Parisian during the confinement.

Brigitte Bourguignon will be in charge of Autonomy. Coming from the Socialist Party, this deputy from Pas-de-Calais is one of the figures of the "left wing" of the majority.

She had notably been a candidate, without success, against Richard Ferrand for the presidency of the National Assembly in September 2018.

Brigitte Klinkert will be in charge of Integration. Since 2017, she has chaired the Haut-Rhin department. She is even the first woman to hold this position.

Elisabeth Moreno will deal with Gender Equality, Diversity, and Equal Opportunities. Originally from Cape Verde, this entrepreneur is currently the president of HP Africa. "Working to give Africans the opportunity to stay in their country while living with dignity, it makes me vibrate", she confided to Les Echos in April 2019.

Alain Griset will be in charge of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). This 67-year-old business leader chairs the Union of Local Businesses (U2P).
