The great hope fostered by the international community and crowned last October by the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize has been shattered in recent days in Addis Ababa. After an episode of violence in which more than 160 Ethiopians were killed in the capital as well as in the State of Oromia, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed appeared Saturday in military uniform to denounce "coordinated attempts" to destabilize the country , accuse "those who pull the strings behind the scenes" and promise, in the form of barely veiled threats, a recovery. At least five senior officials from the Oromo Liberation Front, one of the main ethnic opposition parties, have been arrested by security forces."The risk of destabilization of the country, perceptible for several months, has gone up a notch with these events," said Sabine Planel, Ethiopia specialist at the Research Institute for Development.
