An explosion occurred on Tuesday, July 7, before dawn in a factory in the south of Tehran causing two deaths, said the official agency Irna, attributing this " accident " to human error. The explosion is at least the fourth reported in Iran in industrial facilities since June 25. The previous one, on July 2, took place at the Natanz nuclear complex (center) and the authorities who initially spoke of an " accident " then claimed that they would not reveal the causes for the moment for " Security reasons ".

The new explosion occurred " at the Oxijen factory at 03:03 (Monday 22:33 GMT) " in the city of Baqerchahr (60,000 inhabitants), about 20 km south of Tehran, and caused a fire, told AFP a spokesperson for the National Rescue Service. " There were two dead and three injured, two of whom were admitted to the hospital, " said the emergency services. The Oxijen factory is located in an industrial zone, said the prefect of the city, Amin Babaï, quoted by Irna, without specifying the activities of the installation.

The negligence of the workers in question

According to him, the accident took place " due to the negligence of the workers when filling oxygen cylinders ". The firefighters were present at the scene immediately after the accident and prevented the fire from spreading. " The explosion was so powerful that the walls of the nearby Saipapress (auto parts) factory were also destroyed, " said Babai again, suggesting that significant damage had been done to the Oxijen factory.

On June 30, a powerful explosion killed 19 people in a Tehran clinic, where the fire spread. General Hossein Rahimi, Tehran's police chief, denied that the accident could have been caused by an act of " sabotage ". On June 25, a gas tank also exploded in the Parchin sector, near a military site in Tehran, without causing any casualties. The firefighters brought the fire under control there and an investigation was opened to determine the cause.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (OIEA) released a statement in response to "untrue allegations by counter-revolutionary elements in the media about an explosion at the Chahid-Rézaïnejad nuclear center in Ardakan " , a town about 450 km south-east of Tehran.

" Nothing happened " in this uranium concentrate production plant (" yellowcake "), added the press release without it being possible at first to determine what press information it was referring to. For the OIEA, this information has no other purpose than to " make noise ", to instill " despair " in the country and to support the campaign of " maximum pressure of the Great Satan " (the United States ) against Iran.
