FIGAROVOX / INTERVIEW - Political scientist Jérôme Sainte-Marie analyzes the main challenges of the cabinet reshuffle. According to him, Emmanuel Macron wants to preserve his right-wing electorate, while turning to environmentalists for 2022.


LE FIGARO. - What inspires you from this reshuffle? Do you think it bodes well for a change of course?

Jérôme SAINTE-MARIE.- To date, the clearest indication of the course taken consists of the interview granted on July 2 by the Head of State to the regional daily press. It states that the commitments made to voters in spring 2017 will be kept. According to Emmanuel Macron, the transformation of the social system must continue, in order to fight against the supposed "French preference for unemployment". The need for pension reform is reiterated, while the conflictual climate that the country has experienced for three years is attributed to the style of governance rather than the substance of the policy followed. We therefore remain in a vision where we must release energies and put down the "blocked society", denounced in the past by the sociologist Michel Crozier. There is not much left of the presidential considerations on the "day after" with which the French were delighted
