A Sudanese migrant died drowned Friday in the Saint-Denis canal in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) on the edge of which have lived for several weeks more than 800 migrants in tents, we learned on Saturday from concordant sources.

The body of this man, who fell into the water in circumstances that remain to be clarified, was found early Friday morning, said a police source. " Despite the intervention of the emergency services, he could not be revived, " she said. His age and identity were not known at this time. The migrants on the spot " did not want to tell us too much why he fell, out of modesty and a little out of distrust, " explains AFP Philippe Caro, a volunteer at Solidarité migrants Wilson, an association that organizes food distributions. " They told me he was a little crazy and that he couldn't swim ."
According to the police source, around 800 people now live in several tent camps set up along the canal, between Aubervilliers and Saint-Denis. The camps that were set up during the confinement were " destroyed several times by the police ", but were " reconstituted each time, " says Caro. They "have been growing strongly for about a month ," added the volunteer. " With the end of the winter break, we fear that they will continue to grow ."
