A fire broke out at a petrochemical industry facility in northeastern Iran, near the city of Mashhad, after a gas storage tank exploded, local news agency Maher reported Monday.

According to the report, local police are investigating the circumstances of the incident, which occurred at the Kwian Freeman industrial complex, 32 miles south of the city of Mashhad. According to local fire department commander Jawad Jahandust, six gas tanks were completely burned, including the one in which the blast occurred.

The fire chief reported that the fire was extinguished and that there were no casualties or injuries during the incident. This is the third incident at an Iranian oil industry facility in the last 24 hours after a gas-leaking facility caught fire earlier in Khurasan province.

Yesterday, a refinery caught fire near the city of Bender Mashhare in the area of heavy petrochemicals in the southern state. The governor said that the fire is under control thanks to a well-timed fire-fighting operation and that there is no fear of spreading further. On his social network, heavy smoke was reported to have risen from the facility.

Local media said there were no casualties and that only minor damage was done to the refinery, which has since returned to full operation. It was also alleged that the fault was caused by the heavy heat prevailing in the area, above fifty degrees Celsius.
