The hypothesis of a postponement of the regional, planned in March 2021, beyond the presidential election of 2022 had been put on the table in mid-June by Emmanuel Macron, by evoking the need to put on the rails quickly the economic recovery and further decentralization. According to regional presidents, Emmanuel Macron would have conditioned state financial aid for the recovery to their support for this postponement to which several of them expressed their fierce opposition.

Jean Castex received Renaud Muselier at midday on Monday in Matignon, after an initial interview, by videoconference in the morning, with representatives of the departments, in particular Dominique Bussereau and François Sauvadet.
