Trying to recreate "French Bastille Day"? Several thousand people came tonight (Tuesday) to demonstrate in front of the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, protesting the government's conduct in the Corona crisis. The protesters called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to resign due to the indictments against him and his performance in the crisis.

Some of the protesters light torches and throw eggs at police forces. Some try to break through police checkpoints, confront police officers and throw objects at them. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.  

Sami, one of the participants in the demonstration, told Israel Today: "This is an extremely important demonstration in light of the government's harassment of the protest in general and in light of the economic situation in which there are close to a million unemployed and the prime minister does not really care about the self-employed. Besides, there is no situation in which a criminal defendant serves as prime minister. ' 

Protest organizers said: "The accused prime minister has no time to deal with the severe economic crisis of our generation. Hundreds of thousands of independents are collapsing under the dysfunction of the Netanyahu government, a government that is busy from morning to evening with the trial of defendant Netanyahu. If he remains responsible to the citizens of the state - he must resign and give the reins to those who have time for state affairs. " 

Brigadier General Amir Hashakel, one of the leaders of the "Chair Revolution", said: "You are excited that you came because hope has returned to your faces ... Today, 231 years ago, the French Revolution broke out. The motto created in the revolution was freedom of equality and fraternity. Israel of 2020 needs a revolution. Non-violent, quiet and stubborn revolution. Our motto is freedom, equality, brotherhood, morality and justice. We will not be able to complete the revolution without you. "  

The high turnout this evening was due to calls from activists of the "Chair Protest" and "Black Flags" movements to attend the demonstration - to protest yesterday's clashes between Jerusalem City inspectors and police, who arrived to evacuate activists who have been staying for about a month and confiscate their equipment.  

In front of the protest demonstration, there is a demonstration by Likud activists, carrying Israeli flags and expressing their support for the prime minister. The demonstration area is closed to traffic and there is an increased police presence.
