US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he had signed a law providing for sanctions against the crackdown on Hong Kong, and declared the end of preferential treatment for the territory over which China has imposed a draconian national security law.

" Hong Kong will be treated like China: no special privileges, no special economic treatment and no exports of sensitive technologies ," Trump said during a press conference. " Their freedom has been taken away from them (...), many people are going to leave, " he added.
