A 55-year-old mountaineer killed himself this Friday, July 17, in the Hautes-Alpes while falling in the Ecrins massif, rescuers said. The drama occurred shortly after noon at Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar at 2,600 meters above sea level when the victim unscrewed and fell 200 meters, the department's CRS told AFP.

This fatal accident in the region is in addition to those reported on the Haute-Savoie mountains on the single day of July 14.
Four mountaineers, two paragliders and a hiker lost their lives in four separate accidents on the summits of the department, where 36 deaths were recorded in the summer of 2018 (last figures known), all sports combined. A " black series " that mountain rescue workers explained in the first place by a lack of vigilance.
