Fabio Quartararo obtained his first victory in the queen category at the start of the season, in Jerez (Spain). The Frenchman from the Yamaha-SRT team made a great start in this new season disrupted by the Covid-19 crisis after his pole position obtained the day before with the record for the lap. The 21-year-old Niçois signs a major achievement since it is quite simply the first victory for a Frenchman in the World Championship, MotoGP version (the last 500cc victory for a Habs went back to 1999 with Régis Laconi). Quartararo, who signed seven podiums last year, took control of the event after eight laps and never gave up his leadership until the checkered flag. Maverick Vinales (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) completed the podium. Starting in 20th position, the other French player on the field, Johan Zarco, finished 11th. World champion Marc Marquez was the victim of a very heavy fall while he was making a formidable rise on the podium after having signed a big error at the start of the race while he dominated the debates.
