These credits will aim in particular to finance the meal at one euro for scholarship students, a measure announced by Prime Minister Jean

The Senate voted this Sunday an envelope of 50 million euros to finance the meal at one euro for scholarship students. This sum will also aim to respond to increases in the cost of scholarships based on social criteria, said Minister of Public Accounts Olivier Dussopt. The appropriations dedicated to “student life” are thus increased by 50 million euros.

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Wednesday that "as of the start of the school year, meals in university restaurants will be 1 euro for scholarship students", against 3.30 euros currently, in order to "support students, especially the most modest, who find themselves in difficulty with less access to odd jobs ”.

"It will not be enough," warned Pierre Ouzoulias (CRCE majority communist). According to him, this amount "is a drop in the bucket compared to the basic needs of universities for the start of the school year".

"You can always see the glasses half empty, you have to see them half full," replied the spokesman for the LREM group Julien Bargeton. "It is a concrete advance," he insisted, indicating that "715,000 students are affected by September".
