A blue light flashes on the top of the terminal, a thermometer appears on the screen, then a beep sounds. “It's okay, I'm in green, heading for the holidays!” Says Paule, passing the boarding gate. She only had to stand in front of the screen for four seconds, and the device detected her body temperature. The vacationer is one of the thousand travelers who were able to test these thermal cameras set up by the SNCF.
The train chosen for this first French experiment was not selected at random. "It is in fact two trains, towards Grenoble and Milan, since the Italians were among the first to take the temperature of travelers at their borders in Europe" , explains Laurence Pichard, director of this program at the SNCF. Everything has been done to educate passengers upstream.
