An IDF officer was lightly injured last night (Monday to Tuesday) as a result of a shrapnel wound fired from the side on the Egyptian border in the Har Harif area, from the Egyptian side. He received medical treatment on the spot.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated. At around 02:00, Karkal force reported an MM officer who was hit by shrapnel in the palm of his hand. There was no need to evacuate him.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In October 2014, an officer and a Karkal fighter were wounded by anti-tank fire on the Egyptian border in the same area.

Arab media reported that the shooting from Egypt in the same incident was carried out following an exchange of fire between Egyptian army forces and armed smugglers. Al Arabiya quoted senior Egyptian security forces in Sinai as saying that there was an exchange of fire between the Egyptian Border Police and the smugglers who tried to harm Egyptian forces recently working to expose smuggling tunnels and destroy them in the Sinai-Israel-Gaza border triangle.
