Screening as early as possible to identify clusters and isolate infected people: the ability to test the population on a large scale is one of the essential parameters for effective crisis management. This teaching was imposed during the first wave of the epidemic. The authorities have since mobilized, even if we remain far from the objective of 700,000 tests per week mentioned by the government in early May.
3,133 sampling sites open to the general public are listed in the territory, including 3,082 in metropolitan France, according to data from the Ministry of Health published on data.gouv.fr. These medical biology laboratories, private or public, carry out all the nasopharyngeal samples which allow to know if a person has been contaminated or not by the Covid-19. In two thirds of cases, the sample is taken on site and by appointment. Certain structures only offering “drive” (self-service) tests are also referenced.
