For several weeks now, a protest vigil has been taking place on Ben Maimon Street in Jerusalem, near the Prime Minister's residence. This protest shift, which has recently become a mass demonstration that takes place several times a week, is based on a permanent encampment placed in the public area next to the road. However, in contrast to the demonstrations that take place under the approval of the Israel Police - although in violation of many of its sections - it turns out that the encampment was set up without permission and without permission.

The demonstrators' license from the police, entitled "Conditions for setting up a protest tent against corruption", set out various elementary rules - for example, "a roadblock is strictly forbidden" - and explicitly stated that beyond the rules of public order on which the police believe, "municipal approval must be sought." .

This is an important point because the Jerusalem Municipality is responsible for the construction of permanent and temporary buildings in the public space. A check we conducted with the municipality reveals that the protest encampment was never granted this license: "The Jerusalem municipality did not approve or give any approval in everything related to the encampment, which unfortunately has become an outpost."

A senior municipal official tells Israel Today: "The municipality is responsible for the quality of life of the residents and it is not fulfilling its duty here. Someone is scared that the police have approved before us, and everyone is afraid of media pressure.

According to Uri Nachman of the protest encampment, in early July, after receiving police approval, the activists applied to the municipality but received the inappropriate forms. According to Nachman, three days later, municipal inspectors, together with the police, raided the encampment and caused damage to equipment and even brain damage.
