The first observations foreshadowed a tragedy. This Thursday, the victim, a worker employed by a small construction company (building and public works), taken the day before under police escort to Garches (Hauts-de-Seine) hospital with a vital prognosis, is released, without complications.
He was to be heard this Friday by the police from the center police station, responsible for the investigation.
Man discovered unconscious
Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., police and firefighters take charge of a construction site in a beautiful old building in the Marais, rue de Montmorency (IIIe).
A worker has just been discovered on the ground by the site manager, in a 15 m2 studio on the ground floor that the company is renovating for a private individual.
The victim is unconscious and suffocated. Two other people in the building are slightly intoxicated.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the employee would have connected a karcher on a generator to clean a stone wall. There would have been emissions of carbon monoxide from the generator set, due to a leak.
The site stopped
As a safety measure, after evacuating the victim, the firefighters broke the window of the caretaker's lodge on vacation as well as those of an apartment adjoining the studio, in order to ventilate and ensure that there was no no more carbon monoxide vapors.

At 4 p.m., the Labor Inspectorate arrived at the site and seized the generator, a rental device, suspected of being defective. The inspectors also looked closely at the status of employees, safety standards and working conditions of the company. In the meantime, the site has been shut down.
