If the legislative elections were today, or in a few weeks, the campaign leader of the Frente de Todos would most likely be calling Sabina Frederic by phone. In a report for an American think tank , the Minister of Homeland Security fell into the temptation to relativize the problem of thefts . She said "there are not many, but the media makes them visible." It is not what the common society perceives. The concern about insecurity , which had been relegated by the economy during the macrismo, grew strong in the last month and have a key influence on a possible comicio.
Clinging to some K beliefs in the matter, Frederic never stops tuning in to a central demand from the Argentines. As Clarín said , security policy and the figure of minister in particular are among the least valued by the Government. From the very beginning of the administration, Frederic undertook to undo some measures of his predecessor Patricia Bullrich and led debates that confronted her with the main provincial official of the area, the media Sergio Berni.
In few subjects the contradictions of the oficialismo are so exposed. Beyond the fact that Frederic also assured this Monday that his differences with Berni are of form and not of substance, more and more are those who wonder how long they can live together. With a central question: which of the two leaders harms the Front of All?
With Berni there is a paradox: while the easing of the quarantine brought to the surface the problem of insecurity in the Province - this month five crimes were counted in eight days - the Buenos Aires minister exceeds in image not only Frederic but also most national officials. Thus, with questionable management from the numbers, Berni does empathize with the demand of Buenos Aires residents.
With nuances, the official is much closer to Patricia Bullrich than Frederic to face some debates: he defends the actions of the Gendarmerie, shows himself in action in the territory, stands on the side of victims who react to a crime, endorses the widespread use of weapons by the security forces. Some already glimpse him as a 2021 candidate: an elegant exit from the post and a good electoral offer.
The last numbers
Days ago, the RDT consultancy presented its latest national monitoring, with 2,155 cases surveyed between July 27 and 29. In a cut on insecurity, Martha Reale, director of the firm, summarized:
- " Concern about insecurity climbed 26.8 points , compared to the previous month. Today it worries 54.3% of Argentines, against the 27.5% that manifested itself in that sense at the beginning of June."
- " Women are more concerned than men -57% and 51.3% respectively-. Also the target age over 50 -57.3% -, followed by the sub-30 -54%.".
- "The greatest concern is concentrated in Greater Buenos Aires -61.3% -, followed by the large urban centers in the interior of the country -59.3% -".

- "As for political affinity, the issue affects more voters identified with the opposition -64% - than those of the ruling party -43% -".
RDT also asked if the elections were now, "what aspects would you take into account to decide your vote?" You could choose several answers. "The fight against insecurity" came second with 46.1% , below "the economic situation", which exceeded 50.
Another of the pollsters who addressed the issue was Management & Fit . With a national poll, of 2,200 cases surveyed between July 23 and 28, it showed an updated list of the main problems for Argentines. For this table, respondents could only choose one option. Insecurity came second, with 15.4% , just above unemployment (14.8%) and poverty (14.2%). The first, by far, is another ghost that accompanies Kirchnerism and that worries opponents voters centrally: corruption. He led with 28.8%.
