According to the first data from the investigation, the victims were traveling in a vehicle stolen Tuesday in Thessaloniki and " involved in the trafficking of illegal immigrants ", explains a statement from the police in Alexandroupolis where the accident occurred.
The migrants, whose nationality has not been disclosed, reportedly crossed the land border with Turkey on Tuesday, marked by the Evros River in northeast Greece, before being taken in by one or more smugglers.
