Lefévère and the Jakobsen accident: "It was a very dirty action, we filed a complaint"

The anger has not subsided. On Wednesday evening, Patrick Lefévère publicly expressed his indignation against Dylan Groenewegen on Twitter after the latter had pushed his rider Fabio Jakobsen against the guardrail at the arrival of the first stage of the Tour of Poland in Katowice. An extremely serious accident which plunged the Dutchman into a coma. Thursday, his manager remained on the same line. “I confirm these Twitter messages. It was a very dirty action from Groenewegen. We don't do that kind of thing. We have already lodged a complaint with the UCI and we will do the same with the police in Poland. We will not let that go by, ”he told the Belga agency.

“I've watched this sprint dozens of times. I do not understand Groenewegen's action at all. A rider must stay on his line, ”added Lefévère who was contacted by his Jumbo-Visma counterpart Richard Plugge, manager of Groenewegen. “I told him I thought it was brave of him to call me, but I also told him that I had no understanding for the Groenewegen maneuver,” he explained.

Lefévère also gives news of Fabio Jakobsen. “His condition is serious, fortunately no vital organ has been affected, he is stable, but the next few hours are important. They will try to wake him up. All the bones in her face are broken. It's really very serious, ”continued the manager who made the decision to continue the race in Poland despite the tragedy. "It's a hard blow for the team, it leaves traces and you have to manage it in a professional manner with people who are trained for it".
