This time, no superlatives. Neither "superprofits" nor "superdividends" to give buttons to Oxfam and other fathers the moral. The Covid-19 crisis did not make more neighborhoods in the CAC 40 than elsewhere: taken as a whole, the largest French companies lost money during the first half of the year, where they earned more than 40 billion euros last year. There are no miracles in economics: when everything stops, even the giants reputed to be the most solid find their feet of clay. Some - fortunately few in number - had to resort to state support to weather the storm.
Barring a massive second wave of Covid-19, this air hole may soon be just a bad memory. Of robust constitution, the large French groups have, despite the fall in their activity and their profits, taken the shock rather well. If the wind of recovery picks up a little, most of them will have the necessary resources.
