Moto GP: The rebirth of Zarco, Quartararo within

2020-08-09T13:46:33.854Z

Behind a surprising winner, the debutant Brad Binder, Johann Zarco climbed to the 3rd step of the podium in the Czech Republic while Fabio Quartararo failed in 7th place.

The blue dream has passed. Author of a fantastic double on Saturday in qualifying by taking pole position and second place respectively, Johann Zarco and Fabio Quartararo failed to confirm this Sunday in a race won by the unexpected Brad Binder, first winner South African and KTM's first MotoGP victory. But for Zarco, 3rd place in this Czech Republic Grand Prix remains an excellent result. Like a resurrection for the one who had been kicked out of KTM last season and who could then legitimately worry about his future in the premier class. But Honda, at first, then Ducati, this season, allowed him to slowly, but surely, raise his head. Confidence rewarded this weekend.

However, the start of the race was not ideal for a Zarco rejected from the first corners in 6th place. But the native of Cannes did not dissociate himself and little by little, he nibbled tenth by tenth to get back in the race for the podium at halfway. Even a penalty, extremely severe, for contact with Spaniard Pol Espargaro, or the return to the last loops of Alex Rins could not deprive the Ducati rider of this 7th career podium in MotoGP, almost two years after the last one. in Malaysia (November 4, 2018): “I missed my start but afterwards, I felt good in the turns and I had the pace to follow the best,” analyzed the Frenchman at the microphone of Canal +. When I was penalized I also thought I would lose two or three places and in fact no, no one passed me. On the last lap, I closed all the doors and I'm so happy to be back on the podium. ”

"This result gives me a great boost of confidence"

Johann zarco

A rebirth for Zarco, who had shone during his first two seasons in MotoGP, each time completed in 6th place, before living a nightmare in 2019 (18th). "This result gives me a great boost of confidence," he confided with a broad smile on his lips, which he had lost last year. “I had a great weekend in Brno and I hope to be able to repeat this type of performance for the rest of the season. But for now, I just want to enjoy this moment. ” This performance is all the more impressive given that it has a vintage 2019 Ducati in a satellite team, and therefore has less resources. With this pole position-podium double, however, he should remember the best teams. Starting with the Italian team which could, who knows, offer him a place in its main team.

Nothing catastrophic for Quartararo

For Quartararo, the stay in Brno will have been much less pleasant than that in Jerez. From his first laps on the circuit, the Frenchman had shown signs of annoyance due to a lack of grip with his tires. However, with talent, he had known how to hide his shortcomings during the qualifying session to stay behind his compatriot, in second place. A position he would keep at the start of the race. Before falling back, first behind the KTM tandem, then much further, to a 7th place far removed from its ambitions. However, at the World Championship, the young 21-year-old from Nice consolidated his position as leader given the sad Sunday performance of his runner-up, Maverick Vinales, only 14th and relegated to 17 points now.
